Hi my name is Tanya, my boyfriend William and I would like to give you some history behind Dee Dee, our baby. She came to us in June of 2003, the neighbors down the street had been feeding her for a bit and just didn't want to deal with her anymore, or so we guess, you see she was a stray that came to our home and into our hearts real fast. She was about 4 months old we guess, and very playful, full of vim and vigor as some would say. We decided that because she was so lovable that we would keep her.""insert from dad I think she decided to keep us would be more like it..""
Well here it was July and something strange had started to happen to her fur and skin. So off to the vet we went and we were told that she had a food allergy, ok, the vet gave her a shot of Cortisone and some Cephalexin pills and told us to stop all food except her regular puppy food and that should cure it, we did. Towards the end of the month we brought her back because she wasn't getting any better, another Cortisone shot and more pills, along with some very expensive puppy food and vitamins we were told that it was still food allergy and not to worry it would take care of itself in a few weeks, if not we would need to go to a dermatologist (skin doctor). So thus our story continues, a couple more weeks of agony for our baby and us not knowing what to do.
Along about the middle of August we decided that it was time for a new vet to look at her, so we decided on Pet Smart vets. They did 7 skin scrapings, (ouch those must hurt) and found that Dee Dee had Demodetric Mange. Wow, ok, we can now deal with this, or so we thought, you see the problem was that all the medications and vet visits were soon to become out of control. We had to continue the Cephalexin and start her on a two week regimen of Ivomec (just go to Google and type in that word and see what it is used for,) bring her back in two weeks and we will see where we are at, we were told. Two weeks later, the dose went up and again a fortune in meds and shampoo, but that was ok because we love our baby. Another two weeks and a visit, she was getting better, two more weeks and boom we thought we had it licked.
Just after Thanksgiving, Dee Dee went into her first heat cycle, the mange came back ten times fold, well at this time of year as you all know money is tight, back to the vet we go, we were told that we would have to start from square one and fallow these directions to the letter, we couldn't afford it, what do we do now, they gave us a list of names of places that could "help," oh yeah help indeed, "We are sorry for your trouble but we just can't have a dog that sick on our floor with the other animals, but if you bring her in we will be more than happy to euthanize her for you." WHAT!!, so we did a little research of our own, and here we are today fighting to help our little Dee Dee out.
If any of you out there are going thru the same thing as we are we would like your feed back, or suggestions.
